Furloughed Space

Project Shape and Shift

POP-UP PILOT

CREATIVE HUB

See Space Differently CIC is launching a six-week pop-up pilot in Salisbury, transforming three empty retail units into vibrant, temporary creative hubs. This activation brings together artists, freelancers, micro-businesses, and the local community, demonstrating how underused spaces can generate social, cultural, and economic value.

At the heart of the pilot is Shape & Shift, a sculptural installation by Tim Scrace. Built from reclaimed materials and evolved from his previous work, Shape & Shift consists of three sculptural pods representing:

  • Art: exhibition and showcase space
  • Architecture: studio and practice base
  • Community: workshops, events, and shared activity

These pods serve as flexible, interactive spaces that invite people to engage, co-create, and reimagine how the High Street can support creativity, enterprise, and collaboration.  The pilot aims to show the potential of vacant shops not as empty voids, but as living, adaptable spaces. It provides a test bed for exploring:

  • How people inteact with environments in new ways
  • How creativity can drive footfall, engagement, and community participation
  • How communities can take ownership of local spaces and contribute to their vibrancy

By activating these units, the pilot generates insight into creative placemaking strategies that can be scaled or replicated elsewhere, bridging artistic practice, community engagement, and urban design.
